Motif Vintage Globe with curious geography?
I have an old balloon for a friend who loves the cards in a vintage shop for a gift Christmas. It is one of the tin that the Ohio Art Company used to do (still does? Not sure, but it is they who created Etch-a-Sketch) and when I bought it I did not look too closely at the actual boundary lines of THE country. When I gave my good friend liked, but noted that some parts of the world contradicted. Palestine, Israel had become, you must do after the Second World War, but Thailand and Myanmar will continue to Siam and Burma, Africa is composed in particular the European colonies (I thought it was mostly the decolonization after the First World War?), and Manchuria is the country itself. It's like someone who improvised parts of different cards and painted in this world to confound some poor schoolboy. Can anyone explain this card rare? Date, for example, or give a reason why the people of Ohio Art Company clearly has no idea of geography?
I agree with the answer of No 2. Maps and globes for the middle 1930s all the way in the 1960s contained a large amount of information that is outdated or flat quickly challenged. Second World War brought many new territories as separate nations in Africa, a map was needed for a few months. Art Ohio is not known with precision mapping – surely their world is a mish-mash of the best information we could gather at that time.
